On holiday in Brittany

I haven’t written for a few weeks on this blog as Ive been on holiday in Brittany. We had a week in the north (Cotes d’Armor) in a rented house near the pittoresque town of Lannion, before going down to the south of Finistere to stay with my parents-in-law in their lovely little cottage in Ploghoff, near the Pointe du Raz.

As per usual for Brittany, the weather was often very changeable. A dark and dreary start to the day can easily be followed by the clouds lifting very quickly to be replaced by brilliant sunshine. All in all though, the weather was good.

We didn’t really get up to much as my girlfriend is now heavily pregnant (8 months) so the key to the holiday was to relax and “take it easy”. I think that Brittany is one of the best places to do this, as the temperature is never too high to be uncomfortable, and the pace of life is generally nice and slow. Its always nice to be near the sea; it makes a nice change from a hot and sticky Paris during the month of August.

Interestingly, the Pointe du Raz is the most westerly point in France. Id recommend a visit if you’re ever in the area. Do make the effort to visit the amazing beach just north of the Point at “La Baie des Trepasses” – the “Bay of the Dead” in English – probably named thus because of the extremely strong currents.
